Make Me Wanna Die.

About a year ago, when I began my obsession with Gossip Girl, I heard of Taylor Momsen's band, called the Pretty Reckless. I was able to download one song, called "Blender" or "I Really Fucking Love You", depending on your sources. At the time, I thought the song, was good, but a bit messy.

Now however, it's a different story. Although her look is just an exageration of what she was in the recent series of Gossip Girl, "not original, commercial, fake, the list goes on" I think was what one friend said on her, it actually suits her. She looks good, a lot better than the 14 year old Jenny Humphrey seen in series one. Her band's new song "Make Me Wanna Die" is catchy, but not in a pop, "Miley Cyrus" sort of way, and the whole video just makes me want to bleach my hair white blonde and buy a MAC counter's worth or red lipstick and black eyeliner.

Fainting Spells

My obsession with Crystal Castles has returned. They're new album is actually beautiful, and completely different from their older one. I think my favouyrite song on it is definitely "Fainting Spells" but I think "Celestica" is lovely too. Really liked their interview in this month's DAZED&CONFUSED, and am definitely trying to get hold of one of their tee shirts! I also love the way Alice Glass looks, just flicking thriough the interview made me want to cut my hair short and dye it black!

Ahhh wish I could go.

I hear Sirens...

Found this amazing new band in "Wonderland" magazine a few weeks ago, but my laptop's broken and I haven't been able to get on here. Their myspace has no music on it, and their site http://sirensirens.com/ shows a repeated video clip, of a song that might not even be theirs. They don't have a fabecook fan page either. Nonetheless, I found this song on NME and I think it is quite amazing.

Saturday 27 March 2010

This is Martin Cohn, and I think his style is amazing. I met his double today walking through town. It turns out he is best friends with my friend, does hair and make up at weddings and advises her on her hair. When everyone guy around him was either wearing baggy/skinny jeans with a neon hoodie or an adidas tracksuit, he was wearing jeggings (they were too tight to be jeans, I'm sure) a ripped tee shirt, studded boots and massive mirrored sunglasses. I am in total awe of him.

Better Late than Never - a Look Back on the Music of 2009.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iNzrwh2Z2hQ
The other day, I came across the remix of all the 2009 hits. I instantly downloaded this and have been listening to it on/off for the best part of a week now. But why? I have a fair hatred for all but three of the artists feautured, yet I found myself listening non stop to what should have been four minutes of torture. I think overall, it came down to this: it simply could not get any worse. 2009 saw the split of panic at the disco (I'll have you know at the time I was devestated), the return(?) of the Black Eyed Peas, N Dubz, Alexandra Burke proving herself worthy of her X Factor winner's title, and Joe McElderry. Oh, and if you thought it couldn't get any worse: he was covering Miley Cyrus.
Now I'm not saying it was all bad. Jason Mraz had his single 'I'm Yours' and Lady GaGa had I don't know how many number one's. But we thought 'Bad Romance' was the best we were gonna get: ohh no. As I type this I'm watching her video for Telephone'. Walking in twelve inch McQueen's is now "soo '09". And on a slightly smaller, more personal scale; 2009 saw me wearing giant hair bows and raving to brokencyde, screaming along to Jefree Star and Hollywood Undead. Not cool, ehh?
And I know, I'm not saying this year's music is perfect. And I'm not hoping it ever will be, it's fun to take the piss out of Justin Bieber when he's on MTV, and how many of us have tried to rap along with Dizzee Rascal? But so far, we've had Mumford and Sons, a new Vampire Weekend album, Daisy Dares You finally getting into the charts, and Lady GaGa and Beyonce's 'Telephone'. Oh, and Ellie Goulding. And we're only a quarter of the way through the year.
